Pat Gillis, the JMG Program Manager at Mountain View Youth Development Center in Charleston, hosted a college and career fair for inmates this week, allowing them the chance to make connections with potential employers and to learn about educational opportunities so they can have a second chance at success when they are released. Inspiration Comes to Erskine Academy Students

South China - It's hard to imagine what you would do if you knew you were going to die. That's the plight of Darius Weems, an Athens, Georgia native who at the age of five was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It's a disease that after taking away his ability to walk and breathe, will eventually take his life. Just as it took the life of Weems' older brother when he was just 19 years old. JMG recently partnered with Skowhegan Savings Bank to offer a financial literacy fair to the senior class at Skowhegan Area High School, where students were assigned real careers and salaries and had to make budgeting choices based on those salaries. The Nellie Mae Education Foundation has awarded the partnership of JMG, Portland Public Schools, LearningWorks, and the City of Portland's Refugee Services Program a $5 million grant to design student-centered pathway systems that will better meet the needs of all students in Portland's four public high schools! They are also attempting to match the $1,000 given to them by the Unity Foundation to give away as a JOY grant by doing additional fundraising. Read more about their efforts here.
