Opportunity Passport
In the spring of 2007, JMG partnered with the Muskie School of Public Service, the Jim E. Casey Foundation, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Four Square Foundation and several other members of the Maine Youth Transition Collaborative to deliver financial literacy to all JMG students as well as other youth statewide. The financial literacy education is designed to help young people organize resources to create opportunities for themselves and includes financial, health care, employment, and entrepreneurial education.
In addition to the financial literacy lessons, the Opportunity Passport™ benefit will offer those youth who are in foster care (14 – 24 years old) with an incentive to save their money and purchase assets. These young people will have access to a matched savings account for up to $1,000 per year to be used for the purchase of approved assets such as a car, continued education, or a computer.
