Career Preparation and Financial Literacy Partnership in Somerset County
JMG is partnering with Skowhegan Savings Bank and Somerset County businesses and schools to develop a career preparation curriculum that addresses the gap in soft career skills, including financial literacy, communication, and time management. This initiative addresses the needs of today’s employers with innovative curriculum delivered to schools for a better prepared, better educated workforce.
JMG’s Career Prep and Financial Literacy Coordinator facilitates the development of individual career plans and portfolios for students, including career options, career pathways, educational requirements, and related employment. The Coordinator also identifies extended learning opportunities for students, such as company field trips and tours, college tours, mentoring, classroom speakers, career and education fairs, job shadows, internships, and summer employment.
The Coordinator serves as a resource to Somerset County schools by providing assistance with financial literacy and career fairs, as well as access to financial literacy curriculum and opportunities.
With support from Skowhegan Savings, other area employers, community agencies, and organizations, the Career Prep and Financial Literacy Coordinator identifies workforce needs and ensures that JMG career prep curriculum provides opportunities for students to develop and hone the appropriate skills needed in the region’s job market.
